There have been doctors practicing in Chagford since at
least 1804. The current Health Centre was purpose-built in 1979 and
underwent major alterations in 1983, 1991 and 1998. It has both access and
toilet facilities for the disabled plus a toilet for wheelchair users.
In addition to the main surgery in Chagford we hold a
branch surgery weekly in Drewsteignton on a Tuesday afternoon.
Chagford Health Centre is an accredited GP Training Practice. This means
that we will have GP registrars working and training with is from time to
time. These doctors have been qualified for several years and spend one
year in an approved practice before becoming GP Principals. We also have
medical students from Bristol who join us twice a year.
The Friends of Chagford Health Centre was formed several years ago. They
have raised funds through activities such as coffee mornings, along with
donations and bequests. Various items of equipment have been purchased for
use in the health centre. We feel this reflects the close personal
relationship between the team and our patients.
